Our Vision: The library is the hub of the community, providing a welcoming environment to inspire our diverse population to read, learn and connect.

Located in the Sierra Nevada in Northern California, the El Dorado County Library offers free and easy access to ideas, books, and technology to promote literacy and lifelong learning. The first public library in El Dorado County was a small Placerville City Library established in 1906 on the upper floor of Confidence Hall. Then in 1947 a group of citizens began the work of establishing a County Free Library. This early Friends of the Library group raised funds and bought the old A.S. Fox house. Since then El Dorado County Library has grown to six branches throughout the County, as well as two outreach vehicles.

In addition to our reading materials we offer many other services for patrons of all ages. All of our locations have free Wi-Fi, public computers, and black and white printing. We also have Storytimes for early learners, a wide range of programs for children, teens and adults, book clubs for adults, as well as study areas for students and life-long learners. Our collection offers a diverse selection of items beyond books, such as magazines, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, Book Club in a Bag kits, Mental Health kits, Storytime kits, Beyond School Resources kits that include educational equipment and curriculum guides, and we even have games for check out. Thanks to our outreach vehicles we are also able to bring many of these materials to patrons beyond our library walls! Through our website and apps we offer thousands of eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines that you can access remotely.
